About us > Who we are
Bruce Galvin, CFP® is founder of Revelation Financial Planning LLC. Bruce has lived a majority of this life in Washington State. He has always had a keen interest in financial matters beginning in his childhood when he charted stock prices and made stock purchase suggestions to his father. If only his father had taken him up in the early days of Disney and Xerox. His favorite course in high school was his economics class. This inspired him to major in economics in college.
From 1976 through June 2008 Bruce has worked as the assistant treasurer and benefits officers of the Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Methodist Church. With only three people in the financial office overseeing 250+ churches in Washington and North Idaho it is amazing the breadth of what he has learned over these many years. During this time he was responsible for the accounting system, risk management (property & casualty), benefits programs (pension, health, life, disability and long-term care), investing, budgeting and financial counseling. He works with over 500 clergy and spouses. If the issue involved "money" Bruce is your person to call. Beginning in July 2008 Bruce relinquished his assistant treasurer position at the conference so he could concentrate on benefits and financial planning.
In 2003 Bruce saw a deficiency in the financial education the denomination was providing to its clergy. This education is important because the church has shifted more of the financial decision making to the clergy. The clergy needed to become more informed because of the complexity of financial matters. Bruce took it upon himself to become better educated so he could counsel his clergy constituents through the maze of financial issues He has become the first person in his position at a conference office in the United States to receive the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM professional designation.
His biggest assistance to active clergy has been helping them plan for retirement and answering the most important retirement planning question: “Will I have enough money in retirement or throughout life?”
Because of compliance regulations through the Securities Exchange Commission and Washington State Department of Financial Institutions it is not possible for Bruce to provide investment advice to clergy as an employee of the United Methodist Church. To provide investment advice to clergy of the denomination and financial planning advice to others he would need to become a registered investment advisor and provide this service through his own business, thus Revelation Financial Planning was born in 2004.
Additional information is provided through disclosure form with the Washington State Department of Financial Institutions.
Bruce’s hobbies are running, numerous marathons completed, high school and college track and field officiating and collecting contemporary glass marbles.
